I tried to get inside this museum the 2nd time, but it was closed, again. So somebody else will have to continue my effort to cover this museum. Here are the outside exhibits. Some ammo boxes inside could be seen from the outside.

The curator is a very reasonable individual. If you know that you are going to be in the area ahead of time, reach out to him well in advance and he may be able to make accommodations and open up for your visit. Worked for me a few years ago.

These are things in the immediate proximity to the museum. Those red, yellow and blue giant weathervanes made out of the parts of various bombs (inside the memorial park fence) are very cool. Unfortunately there was no wind, thus I did not see them move.
The monument with a boot is for the Marines from Camp Lejeune who died in a live mortar practice at Hawthorne.

I had a good impression of Hawthorne. Right in front of our Travelodge there was the ONLY restaurant in town, El Capitan. It is a half restaurant/half casino. When we sat down, I inquired with the waitress if there was an active military discount (my Navy daughter, of course). A customer dining about 6 feet away overheard my question and paid for our entire meal. He gave a paid bill to my daughter and said: "Thank you for your service". That bill is hanging on my daughter's frig now.

If I recall, I think, Peter, does a lot of work restoring, MK-46, MK45 and MK44 Torpedos as well as a small flying craft that drops them (QH-50C). He is also heavy into working with, Scouts on these projects. Amazing man.
