went out for a walk today and came across these buildings they are placed on top of the highest point in stornoway isle of lewis has anyone got any ideas what they were used for :tinysmile_hmm_t:

Bunkers

They look like gun pits to me for either AA or more likely coast defence artillery, with ready use magazinesround the edge.

On the centre plynth are there a series of studs ? or a single one in the centre.?
 
We did not see any studs in the center, but will have a closer look next weekend,would you know the age of these gun emplacements.

Gun emplacements

Hi Mick, i would say 3.7" Guns as they were mobile and would not have needed ground mounting.Def WW2 looking at the design. Check your library website for books available on your local area.They should have a list of good ref material.If not try your local museum and see what they know.Tig:bigsmile:
