EPF Interessengemeinschaft fuer Bergbau u. Huettenbetriech AG, Betriechsgruppe Bismarckhuette, Huettenwerk Falvahuetten in Schwientochlowitz, Kries Kattowitz, later Koenigs-u. Bismarckhuette AG ...sometimes mistakenly associated with EPF

He is referring the german "epf" ordnance manufacturer code. But they are always written in small letters without points. So "E.P.F." is surely something else.

A picture of the case headstamp would make an identification a lot easier.

Odvoláva sa na nemecký kód výrobcu munície "epf". Ale vždy sú písané malými písmenami bez bodov. Takže "EPF" je určite niečo iné.

Obrázok pečiatky puzdra by značne uľahčil identifikáciu.
Máš pravdu bude to niečo iné, nemecké boli písané malé písmená. Ja to niekde nájdem.

I asked for that initially, was told that no headstamp or markings were found on the case.

Based on the very unclear measurements of the shell case I would guestimate this is a 76,2x384R90 case (basically straight, rimmed edge, clear crimp). It could be many countries. I find the anchor (typical navy sign) a bit confusing for a 76,2 mm field gun. Or a 75x386R94 Flak14 or 75x399 Fieldkanone 38 or a 75x400R SK C/34 Kriegsmarine case. To be clear, I am ignoring any information from the projectile, purely looking at the case. The last one makes most sesne to me.

Have a second look at the picture, it's a very short case, more like 150-170 mm length.

The image shows a complete cartridge, a shrapnel shell without a fuze + a case. Maybe this helps for recognition. Length of case is a little bit more then two calibres.

"The magazine looks shorter, so it could be from this one. Shrapnel was not produced."

No doubts about this being a shrapnel projectile.

This item was found by law enforcement in another part of the State, maybe 200 miles from me. I've asked for measurements, but it is now in a magazine someplace and they are occupied with other issues. It may be a while.
