ID Please On This Small Round

Darren

Well-Known Member
I have a little collection of various small rounds that i have aquired through 'job lots' of larger rounds. I do not collect small ammunition really so have no idea what they are at all.
Any info on this first round would be great.

Im assuming that the bullet is correct for this case?

First one i have is:

Headstamp: B T M 36 (i think, could be 56)?

Looks alot like 6.5 carcano. Is the case 52.5mm long? I couldn't find that headstamp in my copy of Jane's but I may have missed something.

Yes the case measures 52.5mm in length, thank you for the info.

Cheers,
Darren

6.5m Carcano

I think from the photograph the headstamp is "T M B-36", which indicates manufacture at the Bologna arsenal in 1936 and T.M. are the initials of the Head Inspector there. I cannot remember his name though, although there is a list of the known inspectors somewhere.

Thanks, I learned something new. I didn't know about the inspector's initals I thought it was all part of the ammuniton manufacture's initals.

Confirm

Hello I can confirm it is a ball round for Carcano rifle model 91 in 6,5x52 caliber. It was made by Pirotecnico di Bologna in 1936 (it's impossible that the date is 56 because at that time the arsenal was already closed since many years). The other two letters are the initials of the Chief of Technical Service (Capo Tecnico) in charge at that time. Only part of them have been clearly identified: I remember to have seen a list somewhere, I'll make some search and let you know if I find something
