can anyone id this please i think its german its dimentions are case 37x265 the overall length is 367mm the headstamp is a P 1938 thats all, the case is belted dont know if its brass or steel as some idiot has plated it the projectile has a twin driving band and a alloy plug no markings.
also does anyone know a non destructive way of removing plating.

Platers !

That is a very nice round by the looks of it.

However, to remove the Chrome plating you may well have to visit a platers to have the process reversed but that may give you problems with the current removing other features such as driving bands etc (they can be protected) -have words with a plater and see what they say regarding the removal of the chrome.

If the case is in fact steel then it will have an undercoat of copper which may have started its life on the case-ie a "Copper washed" case so it would presumably need re plating with Copper where this to be removed in the reversal process!
