We found some of these ammo in Normandy, in differents places.
I took the dimensions but I can't id these. I don't know what is the fuze and what is the shell.

Diameter : 75mm (or 3in ? all the dimensions are almost)
All over length : 205 mm

May you help us ?
Thanks,
Pascal

Looks to be a 75mm A.P. M72 w/TRACER or an A.P.C M61 w/TRACER without the AP and the ballistic cap

Hello

Thank you for your resonse, but unfortunatly, I think this is not the answer :

About the M72, the base isn't the same. Take a look to the M72 at the lower part.

About the M61, Yes, the lower part seems good, but the fuze is very different. Also, We found a lot of unknown shell (and there was unfired), none with AP and/or ballistic cap.

Howdy Pascal,

I think strakv may be correct with the 75mm M61APC-T, the reference pic you posted is of a APC-HE with base fuse, the ones you found look to have a tracer element fitted instead of HE configuration.

If you can clean a driveband with sandpaper you should find the identification if it is US. The caps are usually non ferrous & corrode away very quickly, that is why they are not there.

I also see in you finds bucket what looks like a twin driveband 75mm German APC projectile, also unfired.

Regards Ozzi.

Pascal.

I agree with ozziammo that you have the non explosive version of the 75mm M61APC-T. The photo you show, with the fuze unscrewed is the explosive version, and the tracer element protrudes from the base of the projectile. If the projectile is used without explosive and fuze, the tracer plug is flat with the bottom of the projectile exactly as your photos show, and the tracer plug has two spanner holes just like in your photos.

Hey,

I have to agree witn Ozziammo on the 7,5 cm twin drivingband round, that is a PzGR 39/42 which does have an explosive filler!!!
Can't help on the others though, Allied ammo is not my "ballgame".

regards and be safe,

Menno.

It is the 75mm APC M-61 without the caps and the 7,5 cm.

Hello

All I read is very interesting, and I didn't know the system without explosive and with the tracer only.

Tomorrow, if I have the time to do this, I'll try to clean a drive belt to try to found a marking.

Thank you

Checked the manual, you are right it can't be the M72 as it is boat-tailed.
Here is the manual drawing of the M61
