Identification of a bomb in Bosnia and Herzegovina
1. Short History
A bomb find was reported by the BiH Armed Forces within an ammunition depot. According to local information, the bomb was kicked out from an Igloo ammo depot which was bombed by NATO in 1995. The bomb lies approx. 10 m from the bombed Igloo and approx. 40 60 m from another Igloo which is still intact and used as an ammo depot. The access to the bomb is safe but the near surroundings are suspected to be mined.

2. First description of the bomb
The bomb lies on soft and hilly ground close to a forest. Only half of the bomb case is visible. The bomb has a very rusty surface and bears dents and marks from fragments from other objects/ammunition which exploded or were propelled during the bombing and hitting the bomb. The local information suggests that the bomb is not a UXO from the NATO bombings in 1995.
The shape of the bomb is similar to the US BLU 109 penetrating HE bomb but the dimensions are smaller. On the case no markings or colours are visible. No tail fuze is visible outside the case as well as any charging wells and suspension lugs. The tail assembly is missing but the grooves for a tail attachment are clearly visible. The nose has a significant spike though it is not clear that this spike is part of the bomb casing or is a separate part (does not look like a part of a nose fuze). The spike is made from the same material like the bomb case (also rusty) therefore it is assumed it is not a nose fuze.
The back of the bomb has a base plate (not clearly visible but its not clear how this plate is attached into the bomb case). In addition a thin rim is attached to the base part.

1. First ID suggestion
The bomb stems from the former Yugoslavian ammo stock but may be a quite old model and it is a kick-out from the NATO bombed store. The shape of the bomb suggests a penetration HE bomb with a thick steel nose for penetrating purposes. The filling is very likely a HE or HE/Incendiary with a base fuze (delay).

Could it be a variant of the Russian KAB`s?
The dimensions do not match any of the AGM or GBU range.
Looks like a CP (Concrete penetrating) nose.
Certainly HE/HEI filling with base fuze.
If it was an AGM or GBU wouldn`t it have the forward stabs attaching points?

Has anyone made certain that it is a bomb? I see no mention of lifting lugs, distance between lugs, single or double lug, etc. There have been numerous large rockets deployed over the years, and 220mm is one of the popular sizes. Might be useful information.....
