Hi,

a friend of mine has this shell in his collection.
Does somebody have an idea of it's origin.

The length without the fuse is 235mm
The diameter of the copper ring is 98 mm
32 grooves

Regards,
Pascal

Ooh the pink!

Pink paint aside I think that is a very interesting projectile and I must admit to being puzzled by the four (looks like it is 4) "ribs" that can be seen under the driving band.
Also the thickness of the shell body would lean me towards it being a "WP" White Phosphorous bursting shell?

I ask the question to my friend about the pink color.
Actually the shell is painted red. It seems to be pink because of the flash
He also use red to paint the inside of all his shells.

Pascal

this fuze has many Krupp-typical features:

-the cylindrical part on the lower end containing impact mechanism
-the fuze thread
-the conical shape above fuze thread
-the way of marking the time ring

really interesting fuze - I am sorry that I can't say anything more

No, still no identification for the moment

I guess this moment will last for a long time :). Would it be possible to get better quality photos of the fuze? It would be very interesting to see a closeup of the numbers on the time ring for examination.

Are there any marks on the fuze? It certainly does seem odd. A pre-rifled shell WITH a normal driving band, on a shell that has obviously been fired from an artillery piece! It does look a bit 77mm like. Not my specialist area but very curious! The current colour is a bit of a red (or pinkish) herring as it looks like it has been re-painted.77mm.jpg
