HI
Fuzes types are N289 and N291
Two type bomb: 30 and 40 lbs for mortar tank churchill A.V.R.E.

Thanks Doc..

No.289 Mark 1 - W.O.L.C. C6741
No.291 Mark 1 - W.O.L.C. C2387

No further Marks on these fuzes and declared obsolete in Handbook 45 (1962) by Inspectorate of Armaments, Woolwich.
Is that correct?

Any drawings or tech details on these Fuzes?

Here you go Ammodillo...

British - AVRE 290mm Petard Mortar.jpg British - AVRE 290mm Petard Mortar2.jpg

The lettering on this round are as follows..

On Tail - PROP. UNIT BOMB DEM. No. 1. 40-lb. 1. S.C.W.S. 6/44 Lot 28
On Charge - BOMB DEM No.1. 40LB MK.II. J.G.C 9-44 LOT 41

If you could explain some of these, I'd appreciate it...eg SCWS and JGC etc.
I also have a spent cartridge used to propel the flyin dustbin into the air.

Also, do you have any information on quantities made etc..

Oh and Ben...come on, lets see some pictures of a new one.

Flying dustbin

Hey Fella's

Any chance of some pics of the propelling cartridge, including dimensions & headstamp?

Thanks,

Regards Ozzi.

Hi Ozzi,

Here are pictures of the propelling charge
Overall length is 68mm
Diameter is 28.7mm

There are no stamped markings on the charge, but there is the marking "X 27", Ill be impressed if anyone knows what that is...assuming its not a lot number.

What is the diameter of the body of the Flying Dustbin? is that 290 mm or 260 mm?

Is it the same cartridge as used in the 29mm spigot mortar? Does the black band denote a practice cartridge

Cheers
