Ink stamp on 47 mm Japanese case

I have a Japanese 47 mm case from the WW1 era. It has faint ink marks, that I cannot really read. Are ink markings like this common on Japanese casings? They remind me of French ink stamps actually, this case was also found in France.

Does anybody know if these ink markings are possibly Japanese by showing other examples? Or, does anybody know a trick to make the ink stamps more visible?

I am asuming the stamps are not water soluble so try a gentle wipe with a damp soft cloth, this will for a short while darken the stamps and possible allow a better view of them, try this first in a different part of the case where it will not cause anything to be erased,be gentle,
Cheers,
Don,
