Introduction of nickel plating for Naval Ordnance????

Hi All,

Just been doing some research into when electroplating was first developed (early 1800s) and the eventually adoption for naval ordnance (i.e. nickel plating) to help protect against corrosion. For bronze /brass body fuzes, this would have been for specific external /internal steel components like the safety pin etc.

(Later examples would be the Japanese Imperial Navy fuzes of WW2....................)

Therefore, any ideas when navies started to use nickel plating for ordnance?

Perhaps late 1800s /early 1900s?

Other examples are swiss Tavaro Fuzes from since the late 1920's.

Most Prussian fuzes since ~1890 had nickel plated steel needles, so the process was still invented.
