Hi Waff,
H1 Hohlladung (hollow charge) anti armour round. Later ones had a much longer ogive which gave better "stand off" boosting the jets armour penetration. The HEAT round was not reliant on velocity to defeat armour so could and was used on to all types of weapon. It is though negativly effected by spin induced by rifling so is at its best used smooth bored applications. KwK, PAK and recoilless use.

That will do for me! Thanks Gents for your inputs..:)
So im now looking for a spare Pak or KwK case in good condition... :p

Looks good Waff.

There was a series of these: A, B and C.

Yours looks like a Hl/B. They were used more after the ban on tungsten core projectiles and as already said will go with either a Pak40 or KwK40 case.

Please not that the 7,5cm KwK and the 7,5cm KwK40 (the one here in question) used different projectiles.

Hi there,

As far as i know youre type was used for the kwk 40 and pak 40. The ones for the kwk 38 is smaller and has a thinner drivingband. the one for the pak97 is the same projectile but the drivingband have been made less thick.

I will have a look for the drawings of the projectiles.

regards

DM

Please not that the 7,5cm KwK and the 7,5cm KwK40 (the one here in question) used different projectiles.

In the early dates the 7.5cm KwK and the 7.5cm KwK40 and the Pak 40 all used the same hollowcharge with the same design.

It was called a 7.5cm Gr.38 Kw.K when used in the 7.5cm KwK.
When fitted to the KwK40/Pak40 the name was changed to 7.5cm Gr.38 Hl/A as these cases also were later fitted with the B and C projectiles.
Waff has the B projectile.

As far as I know the 7.5cm KwK case was only ever fitted with the original Gr.38. This had the same driveband and boat tail but a different cone.

The Pak40/KwK40 driving band was different.

I have 1943 dated Finnish army data sheets for 7,5 cm Pak 40 and 7,5 cm Kwk 40 rounds. They show identical German HL/B shells for both.

For 7,5 cm Pak 97-38 data sheet shows a HL/B with narrow driving band but that one is of Finnish manufacture and thus can't be compared.

To add to the 'KwK-conundrum',here are a couple of shots of my other proj's of same calibre.(pictured alongside the latest grey one)
What case is for which proj then please Gents?
Last pic being the short case.

cheers
