Got these two nice looking Bofors 40mm L/70 cartridges case & shells. Did not realize when I bought them via internet that the actual shells were placed upside down. Both cleaned up nicely but now looking
for two dummy fuses to complete the set. BTW, both shells and cartridges cases are without any markings or makers name.

The official designation found on the web is apparently: US 40mm HE-PFPX-AA containg 650 steel balls (picture on the right). Is this correct?

There are a number of projectile types for the 40mm/L70 to include Target Practice, HE, HEI, and the Prefrag HE that contains tungsten balls in a plastic matrix surrounding the explosive filler. With all the paint removed, you would need to compare the weight of your projos to weights of other projos to identify, or x-ray the projectiles. If you look at all the projectiles in the previous posting listed below, you can see that there are a couple of different fuze lengths for the projectiles. Your projectiles are made for the longer proximity fuze, but there is also an HEI projectile that takes that fuze, so you would appear to have 50/50 chance that you do have the prefrag projectile.
