they will use basically the same rounds as the bushmaster, but there is an HEI round with a VT fuze, I have pubs on them but not sure how many good photos, rounds being made by ATK 70% of latest contract) and GD-OTS )the remaining 30%)
That's a new one on me. The only 25mm gun fitted to an AC-130 which I know of is the five-barrel GAU-12/U, which is clearly not the one shown in the picture.
The latest gun to be fitted to these planes is the MK44/Bushmaster II (I forget offhand what GAU number they've given it) in 30x173 calibre.
I asked the same thing of the picture taker. He swore it was 25MM. We'll see, for sure, when the bullets come available for viewing. It is a test aircraft, so who knows.
Incidentally, some smaller aircraft (C-27, for one) are being fitted with side-firing guns, but with the M230 in 30x113B calibre. I think this is the new LF (link feed) version with a longer barrel than the linkless feed model fitted to the Apache helicopter.
attached are photos from last years RIAT. Not the 30x133B variant but 30x173.
The muzzle attachment is different than on the Herk.
