Does anyone collect RAF memorabilia ,my dad has just contacted me asking for help in valuing a chess set(sorry no pics) once owned by Sqn Ldr James Harry (GINGER) Lacey..The box is signed J H Lacey..the chess set came out of mrs laceys house when it was sold off in the 1950s so it is guaranteed authentic..
The present owner wants to auction it off for a charity and would like to know what sort of value it may have,,and where would be a good place to auction it here in the UK,,i was thinking a auction house that has militaria sales but dont know of any,any suggestions
regards spotter

Hi Allan,

i would put it on eBay as it would have the biggest amount of potential viewers, far more than any standard auction house but remember to go for the international viewing setting.

Another option would be to contact either Christies or Sotherbys and ask their advice as ime sure it will generate a lot of interest having been once owned by such a WW2 fighter Ace. Its the sort of thing i love seeing on TV programmes such as the Antique Roadshow.

Probably worth having a word with Bosleys.

http://www.bosleys.net/

I've heard they have a good reputation and seem to know the field.

Tom.

I can recommend Bosleys too, they sold my Dad's collection and we were very happy with the service given. Tony.

Anything to do with the Battle of Britain and fighter aces is going to get mega money, especially if it can be authenticated. Get as much information together about it before putting it on the open market is my advice. 'Ginger Lacey' you can't get better than that, good luck!
