I thought this might be fun, and benificial to others ...

I have images of 3 different versions of the No. 106 projectile fuzes:

No. 106 MK III
No. 106 MK II
No. 106 E MK VI

Does anyone have any of the others? I would like to gather as many as possible for the EOD publication I am revising. Plus this would be a good refrence point for those who have these fuzes, or need infomration on them.

Joe

Here is the No. 106 MK II ... the marking on this one were very faint in the side, and without the actual item it is almost impossible to see.

Thanks ... the fun part for me is going to be finding the differences between them all. But if anyone has any of the others, lets keep it going.

Here is an X-ray of the NO 106 E VI ...

Not much to see ... but thought I would share.

The x-ray pics are always amazing. If you are the "taker" of them, can you advise what settings are necessary? I have a friendly dentist with a digital machine who is keen on this sort of thing. We just don't know where to start. And would a dentist level machine even work? I have zero knowledge of such things, so basics won't be wasted. The DR. only knows about teeth pics.

Oh, and nice fuzes, too. Sorry, don't have any examples.

Regards

Rick

Rick,

The settings required will vary according to the X-ray set you are using (continuous or pulse X-ray) not sure if a dentist set will have the power though??
The milliamp setting changes the quantity of X-rays produced and the kilovolts change the energy of the X-rays.

The settings required will vary depending on the thickness of the target, the density of the construction material, the time of exposure and the method of image capture (digital or film).
There's lots of other factors which affect the image quality, but half the fun is trial and error. I would suggest keeping the amps as high as possible and then change the voltage and the time, but only change one parameter at a time.

Using an Andrex 300kV system with film, the settings for a British 221B fuze at an FFD of 600mm would be 2 mA, 160kV, 1min.

Good luck

Just been looking at some dental X-ray systems and it seems that 65kV is about the limit, i don't fancy your chances of penetration with that!!!! ;-))

Thanks for all those particulars. We had attempted it on a 7.62X51 cartridge, but got nothing of value. He, the DR., suspected his machine wasn't up to the chore. From your info, that's the fact. I will give him the specs you listed and go from there. Not optimistic, but it was worth a shot. Would an MD's machine be more powerful?
