Pair of 'Interesting" Trench Art German 77s. - "Arrived yesterday"

Hello Folks -

I don't usually go in for these, especially as they were made post-war as souvenirs, but these look to be something special.

Whoever did this seems to be quite the craftsman, if they are legit. Haven't arrived yet, but when they do a light cleaning with Howard's should really make them stand out..., they are both German 77mm's.

Anyone ever see any similar or opinions on them?

- Thanks and Best Regards! Mike

This is unusual work

of a high standard. I don't collect it, but see lots in passing and these are well
above the average work.

Magnificent !
I think that these are two of the best pieces of 'Trench Art' I've ever seen. It matters not if the work was done post war as I believe some skillful soldiers did this sort of thing whilst recovering from wartime injuries. Whoever made this lovely piece of work must have been a highly skilled metalworker.
They really should be on display as outstanding examples of 'metal bashing'.
I hope I'm not wrong here, I'm no expert and only have a few pieces myself which are insignifcant compared with these. I would love to have something similar in my small collection.
Great to see, just wish I had enough money to make you an offer!
Best regards,
navyman.

Superb pieces. The graphic nature of the 3rd image is unique in my experience of trench art. Great find.

Thanks Gents!

Comments greatly appreciated and agreed. I have never run across anything even close to these. It will be most interesting to see if they are signed or initialed. If I were that skillful I'd be proud to put my initials on it.

- Best regards! Mike

I too am not a collector of trench art as such. However the artist and art work on these shells is nothing short of magnificant. The theme and attention to detail runs 2nd fiddle to none. Great finds Mike...Dano

They arrived yesterday, replete with old spider webs inside! Here are a couple shots and a 'walkaround' of them before and during a light cleaning with Howard's Wax & Feed and a soft toothbrush. Taste is a bit nasty, but I love that stuff for most everything. Will probably hit them once more.

I can't find any id on them, but they are even more spectacular in person. The engraver was definitely a master craftsman. Both are made from 1917 dated German 77s.

- Best Regards! Mike
