Apart from a few pages in the books Hogg wrote and some photos on the internet there seems to be little information out there about the Peenemunde arrow shells.

From what I've read there seem to be 2 main types, the 31cm for the bored out 28cm rail gun and the 10.5cm version which was designed for use as an anti aircraft projectile.

Does anyone have any photographs of actual specimens they can post. Are there any out there in collections? Any decent drawings etc?

Dave.

This is very cool, I know nothing of it, BUT I do have questions! What was the point of this round? It looks like an APFSDS round but fired from artillery?

"What was the point of this round"

To dramatically increase the range of a projectile.

Regards, DJH

I believe the ultimate goal was to shell England from the mainland of Europe.

Dave,

If you hadn't already seen, the aforementioned document charts the progress of the 'Green Mace' design.

Another document to look at is "German Ammunition, A survey of wartime development. High Velocity, Fin Stabilised, and Rocket Assisted Projectiles" - which I'm sure I supplied you a copy of.

Thanks for all your information everyone, very interesting.
Tim yes I have the info on the Greenmace but don't remember the one on German ammo, will check again.
What case length would the 105mm version fit in?
Some photos of my humble 105mm specimen shown next to a Bofors L 60 for scale. The sabot is a repro and I'm not sure about the paint job but I like it.
All INERT.
Dave.

The following link to the greenmace development includes a photograph of the 105mm Peenemunde arrow shell. First time I've seen a photo of a case.
Anyone know what case it is?
Dave.

The photograph of the 105 mm PPG you posted mentions under #3 that a cartridge case shortened to 300 mm was used. The Waffen Revue document that Joerg posted states that there were two 10,5 cm PPG projects worked on : Nr.2 PPG for 10,5 cm Le FH and Nr. 6 PPG for 10,5 cm Flak. Only the case of the latter can be shortened to 300 mm so I assume it is a shortened 10,5 cm Flak 38 case which is shown on your photograph.
