Polish E type Grenade

paul the grenade

Well-Known Member
Heres my latest aquisition.
Its a Polish E type grenade which is a modified British No16 grenade. It was fitted with the Ac 23 fuze. This was used as a training grenade and had no explosive filling. There was another version that had no fuze, just a plug in each end and a sand filling and was used for throwing practice.
The body of this gren is marked in raised letters
"Mc D ? & Co Ltd 1915"
Did McDonalds make grenades before they made burgers?:tinysmile_fatgrin_t
any help with an Id on this manufacturer would be appreciated.
Cheers, Paul.

Hi Paul,

nice gren, could the missing letter be an S ?

MacDowell, Steven & Co, Ltd, Laurieston Iron Works, Falkirk, Scotland could be the makers. they were iron founders before WW1.

Hi,
Sorry to say that paul, but there is something wrong with this fuze.
AC 23 look little bit diffrent. Your fuze look like body from AC 23 with safety lever from AC 25.
Look pics.

Regards.
