Pornos for Ordthusiasts

HAZORD Dictionary:

Ordthusiast "One who is ardently absorbed in an interest or pursuit of Ordnance. see also connoisseur, practitioner, devotee, aficionado"

My Distinguished Colleagues,

It is funny how one thought leads to another, and another, etc.

In the past weeks we have referred to ourselves as addicts in some posts, and I was one of those authors. I had some photos to post for your enjoyment today and was trying to think of a catchy title. Of course it should be short and sweet, and something that gets your attention. I always marveled at the name "Pornos for Pyros", Pyros being the slang term for pyromaniacs. It just has a ring to it, despite the socially unaccepted definition of porno.

Every now and then one of us will jokingly make a comment about the sexual excitement we might receive from Ordnance photos posted of something we particularly like. Therefore, the first word in my title.

Continuing, I needed a single word for Ordnance Enthusiast. I don't like addict, junkie, nut, kook, fanatic, and all of the other derogatory terms associated with one who gets excited about something, as they imply that there is something wrong with that person. To the contrary, Ordthusiasts are typically more intelligent, curious, well educated, and facinated by their craft. Here in the States, people that liked guns used to be called gun nuts. Now, in the politically correct society, they are referred to as gun enthusiasts. Most likely to prevent the media from being sued for calling them nuts, like they used to.

If we don't name ourselves, someone else will. I'm proposing that we be proactive, and adopt a one word name for ourselves, one that is positive, a conjunction of ordnance and another word meaning excited about, cultured in, etc. etc.

Ordthusiast and Ordaficionado are two examples, whereas ordfancier sounds a bit gay.

So, what do you all think?

Oh, and please feel free to add more Ord Porno!

Waff,

That's because he knows you and probably doesn't know Ordnance, but knows what you like. I guess somebody needs to PM me about what anorak means, other than a type of jacket.

That's a good one Paul! Could work as long as people don't confuse it with Ornithologist (Bird watcher)

To be precise

Hoplology: the study of weapons & weaponry, check the dictionary!

We are "Hoplologists"!

Comes from the ancient times (Greek, Latin) Hoplite, being a Greek foot soldier.

Hope this all helps- even if it is a boring name, LOL.

Thats good info to have. The Hoplites didn't have as much to study though. Dictionary dot com says it is the study of human combative behavior and performance. Kind of sounds like sports medicine for soldiers. They even have a society http://www.hoplology.com/, but it just seems to be combat techniques.
