I'm hoping to find out more information about my recent purchase. I was thinking it's a proof shot or 18 pounder practice round, but it only weighs 16.4 lbs. And does not appear to have a fuze. its 84-85mm & 11 inches long

Its marked:

Q.F. 8 PR

III - (Mk III)

F.S. (forged steel)

T.E.C.

1-16 (1916?)

^
AA

P

It looks like it was chromed at some point.

If anyone can tell me the manufacturer, and more information it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not having much luck finding any records about Truro Engineering Co., manufactiring 18 pounders. I've hit a brick wall trying to find any information about the multiple Broad Arrows stamps with AA and the \/ E.

Whats the best nondestructive way to remove old paint/ rust/chrome without damaging it? or should i leave it as its keeping whats left of its patina? Any further information or advice would be greatly appreciated.
