RAF Millom museum

Barrow-in-Furness

Hey, WAFF:
When I saw your post mentioning Barrow-in-Furness, I remembered I have an old Luftwaffe map (Night map, actually) of the area. Thought you might like to see it.

The curator was telling me that his father|(or fathers pal?) worked at the lighthouse in the war.when the raids were on,2 german pathfinder bombers would find the lighthouse and drop sticks of IB's up the beach to show the way for the main force!
I bet that was a site to behold!
The only protection issued to the lighthouse keeper was a large oak table for him to shelter under!

Interesting pics there.

Wonder if all those German tunics are pukka, if so, then there is an awful lot of money on those coat hangers, same goes for the value of the visor caps as well. Re: the pic of the MG42 on the AA tripod. 'tis that a Czech Vz37 I spy in the bottom left hand corner of the pic? (the Germans nabbed quite a few of them if I remember correctly)

Hi Chaps,
Im off back up to that museum today with some donations for their collection.
I shall get some more pics and information on how to find the place.
Overnight camping ops as well including lots of fine wine and friends. :)

Hi Kermit,
I talked to the owner of the tunics and he says they are the best repro's he could find for the museum.Yes,they really are superb when you actually see them up close.
The MG42 turns out to be a Yugo version but is still dated '44.
Forgot to ask about the Vz37 but will bare in mind next time im up there.

I donated a cockpit mirror for that Tornado jet and also gave them a bakelite pot for their ELAZ 28A bomb fuze.
Also the line drawings for the 89B fuze were greatly recieved. :)
