Rocket end

I expect some of you saw this on Specialist Auctions recently, well, it was cheap so why not!

Now for the question, what's it off?

I'm assuming the description was right i.e. its the back end of some sort of rocket or rocket assisted projectile?

Diameter is 135mm at the top, 74mm at the base 245mm long.

The only stamping is shown in the photo.

Thanks.

Dave.

Hello Dave,

I'm absolutely not a specialist of this kind of device, but should it not be possible that it is the ventury of an ejection seat catapult or something like that ? That look me too "bold" for a part of an ammunition !

Doesn't look familiar, but I would think that it is much too large for a seat motor. My best guess would be as a venturi for a JATO of some sort, it would be the most likely to be out in the public and easily disassembled like that.

It is the back part of the Rocket Motor (JATO) M3A2E1, used for launching target drones from a catapult, the solid propellent thrust unit screws in the large end and the ignition leads come out of the small end. will scan the page as soon as i can get my scanner working. Is in TM9-1340-222-20 page 2-6 if anyone has an electronic copy.

Richard that's brilliant, well identified! I have a copy of TM9-1900 TO 11A-1-20 and there it is on page 232! What makes it worse it was sat in my bookcase all along! Thanks again.
Dave.

Well, it is long ago since I actually knew what is sitting on my book shelf or hard drive. Some day the quantity of documents one has will start working against him!
