SC 50 bomb fin

hi guys

picked up a wooden sc50 bomb the other day for our museum....one of our chaps is a very skilled fabricator and has made bomb fins for many of our exhibits...he even made the 250 bomb fins on the hurricane at north weald.

now we have the sc50, we need some fins for it....he has made the 4 fins from drawings and pictures.......he tells me each fin is manufactured with a quarter of the cone on it....where he is struggling is how each piece is fitted together...the drawings are not clear neither are the pictures we have found

what we need are some pictures of sc50 bomb fins.....really detaiiled close ups please

can anyone help.

regards

philip

one quick question.......is the fold onto each subsequent fin spot welded to the next one? or is it seam welded/ brazed

Will check in the morning for you. I do recall seeing that there are 'folds' on each layer of the tail.
Im no engineer regarding metalworking so i suggest you have a word with my mate 'satan18' as he is bang on when it comes to metalworking/restorations..trust me. ;)

The museum sounds interesting

really don't know what it was used/made for but it is ideal for our display.

sywell aviation museum......been going since 01......3 nissen huts together.....loads of stuff crammed in there....some nice bombs as well

we actually have a concrete sphere which was part of the blue danube nuclear thingy...some kind of training/loading /ballast type thing....prob unique

def worth a visit if you are down in northampton area

super site as well, live airfield with tiger moths, harvards, lots of general aviation flying about.

oh and we have an alan williams turret.......very rare
