Picked up recently this Russian 1904 dated 37x94R case that has been shortened to 65,7mm length very long time ago. Also the new case mouth material is very thin and looks like it has been made thinner when shortened.
There were several similar 10mm broad dents on the mouth - just like it had been tried to push in something. I have knocked the dents back up again.
Headstamps are just ordinary Russian of that era.
Do our 37mm specialists know if there has been any official reason to shorten these cases? It does not look like it would have been converted to a souvenir or something.
