Smoke float no1

The photos in this topic are from member smokefloat
I believe They show a smoke float no1 mkiv ???
were these used in an air sea rescue type situation or are they for target indicating..
please feel free to add further information,drawings etc

Spotter,

I'd say your spot on as far as "Air-Sea Rescue" is concerned. I see three areas on the bomb itself that are empty spaces for buoynacy. In the description of the item in question it states near the very bottom that ignition still takes place while the bomb is still underwater until it rises to the top where it probably goes full blown smoke. Something, however, tells me that the device could also have been used by an Observation aircraft looking for submarines, and by using this device this way they could keep the submarine tracked untill bombers or something smaller like Mosqitoes came on station.
