Stalin's Perfume Bottle- Strange MUV Fuze

Kilroy was Here

Well-Known Member
Hi, here is pics of my Soviet glass bottle charge, or "Stalin's Perfume Bottle" and some WW2 era MUV fuzes I have collected. I have pictured all the different types I have found. There is bakelite, 2 that look like steel. One is a solid tube, the other is rolled, and has a seam. Then 2 brass 1940 date, with the percussion cap adapters that screw on the bottom. (these also fit on the bullet fuze)

BUT, One of these MUV fuzes is very odd. It is in the shape of a BULLET, but it is not a bullet casing, it is too thick, and it is threaded at the bottom. This adapter on the BULLET fits the other Soviet MUV's, it is same thread size, so must be Soviet? There is part of the remaining detonator crimped on, and some red sealant or marking for ID.

I have not seen this "Bullet MUV" type before. Does someone know more about this fuze? I think it is Russian, although it could be Finnish maybe?

I was thinking maybe this is a Fuze was designed to save time, and maybe used the same machines as bullets to make fuzes also? A war expediency type of thing? Does anyone know more about this Odd Fuze?

There is also another strange part with a "stationary firing pin" that has threads. It looks like it would be a detonator of some type, but works in reverse? a percussion cap it forced under spring tension INTO or ONTO this pointed "firing pin"? What is this thing? Anybody know???

Regards, Steve

Very interesting items you have there. Thanks for sharing.

So do you plan to use some rust remover to clean them up?

Oh, in addition, the "Trunk Monkey" is excellent! I have the video.

I can only second that, Steve.
the complete bottle-set certainly is a great rarity. even good MUV's are hard to get over here.
should have better connections to the far east :tinysmile_twink_t:

AhhHa, you know of the trunk monkey. I captured an image of him to use from the video. I like him too. I did not think anyone would know of him.

I am going to use OSPHO on the pretty badly rusted "Bullet Fuze" striker rod and pin to kill and stop the rust. I might also clean all of them a bit with oxalic acid, then oil them, They do not look too bad as is also though.

Interesting Soviet WW2 Sappers pouch

Here are some pics of what is described to be a Soviet WW2 Sappers pouch, for 4 of these glass bottle charges used with the PMD box mines, and 4 MUV fuzes. A Very interesting item, I have never seen one. This is where a book on Soviet WW2 uniforms and equip. would come in handy.

According to the first and the second picture of the top post the fuzes would be:

MUV Mod. 42
MUV Mod. 40
UVG I Type
Unknown MUV Type
UV Mod. 32
UV Mod. 32

The fuze in the bottle is another MUV Mod. 40.

The bottle was mainly used with the AP pressure blast mine PMD-6F/ПМД-6ф (Protivopekhotnaya Mina Derevaya 6 Flakonnaya / Противопехотная Мина Деревая 6 флаконная).

Hello Steve,

the "unknown thing" is a russian MV-5 fuze. Used in AT mines such as TM-44. This fuze used same MD-2 detonator than the MUV fuzes.
From the MV-5 fuze I found some different variants three years ago:
-steel body + steel cap
-bimetal body + steel cap (than yours)
-bimetal body + bimetal cap
-bimetal body + stamped ("58") bimetal cap
-bimetal body + bimetal cap with a little screw on the top
From the MUV fuzes I also found about 4-5 diffferent variants.
From the russian "sapper" ordnances easier found two different than two same. :)

"Stalin's Perfume Bottle":congrats:

What was the explosive, that was used in the bottles?

I found it on the web site that Stecol listed:

Inside the bottle is filled powdered explosives (TNT powder, ammonite, dinamon, ammonal or any other explosive substance to explode on reliable standard primer MD-2), after which the vial zakryvetsya glass stopper and place the joint is sealed by any apprentice sealant (wax, wax, tar and etc.).
