I recall seeing somewhere that Saddam Husseins palace guard were all issued with gold plated Stirlings,these were discovered when the palace was captured during the Gulf war,along with crates of all sorts of weapons,(hand guns mainly)

Sterling Arms would supply Sterlings in any finish specified by the customer ,usually chrome plated or 24 kt gold ,at least 25 chrome and 21 gold plated were made gold plated been supplied to Qatar and Kuwait and others and chromed guns going to Qatar,Kuwait and Tunisia(all information taken from The Guns of Dagenham 1995)
