Stielhandgranate 17

The m1917 German stick grenade was the culmination of four years of wartime developement of the stick grenade which I would guess started with the "box petard" and ended with the developement of the stielhandgranate 17. Unlike the m1915 and m1916 whose shapes would vary with the different manufacturers the m1917 stick was much more uniform. The specs were precise with no variance, this was a truly regulation model. The canister was 6cm in diameter by 11cm long and a 3.5cm diameter threaded opening in the base. One piece stamping eliminated the need for a lid and used a "Wilhelm" handle 25cm long closed by a metal star cap and metal pull cord igniter. The Stielhandgranate 17 was used through the end of hostilities....Dano
