Strange French 50mm mortar round.

Hi,
Another unknown find's from poland.
French 50mm FA Mle 1938 with some different tail... no wings.
(on pics. from right)
We have seen aluminium or steal tail, but never before - like this one.
Any ideas?

Best Regards.

Was it an aluminium tail with steel insert and aluminium broken off - looks like that.

Turned off ?

Marius
It looks like some silly sod has turned off the fins and spoilt the bomb, unless it is missing something!

Hi,

Was it an aluminium tail with steel insert and aluminium broken off - looks like that.

Yes, that is also very possible but... All of those French 50mm round's
was find in Poland in sand ground. Thats very good ground for artefacts. Every single digger know that. We find 60mm mortar rounds i good condition, all still in black colour, even alu tail's was with real minimum damaged.
We find also couple round without wings (like this one from pic) and with any sign of pics aluminium, nithing. Was clear, like a new one.
That's way that is still interesting for me...

Also
possible; maybe somone removed alu tails long long time ago...

It's FRENCH 50mm FA Mle 1938 WW2

Yes of course - my mistake ;( sorry.
Best Regards.
