The movie also shows very truefully how we have treated our heroes after the war.
Unfortunately the scene with the crashlanding was destroyed in the lab and it had to be reshot.
The best music is the sound of Merlin engines.
The father-son duo of creators have won the Academy Awward (Oscar) with their previous movie Kolja (not a war movie but also worth seeing).

The best czech war movie IMHO is Atentat from 1964. I was unable to find english version on the web, sorry.
 
Use this to get Atentat's English subtitles http://www.opensubtitles.org/en/subtitles/4066988/atentat-en, click ONLY on blue "Atentat subtitles English" under big green "WATCH NOW" sign, downloaded srt file will be zipped, unzip it, put it into an empty dedicated folder. Go to YouTube and get the whole movie by using YouTube Downloder (free programme), put it in the folder where srt subtitles file is, rename srt file to the EXACT movie file name + .srt, watch Atendat with subtitles.
