.303s

Very nice.

The tin plate Blanch dummy is a very good item and the one piece brass thomas french drill rounds are also getting hard to find.

Can you post some pictures of the grenade blank labels please.

Thanks
TonyE

Very very nice haul
If you have any inert stuff up for sale or swap I am in the market.
Especially in CAC h/s cases
JFL - I have a few hundred links available!

Italian drill rounds

Tony, why the white tip on the Italian dummy round?

These rounds were originally made by BPD for an unknown contract, possibly Egypt, in the 1960s(?).

In the late 1970s/early 1980s the British Ministry of Defence were looking to buy .303 rounds for the cadet forces that still were using No.4 rifles. They bought .303 ball (as the L1A1) and blank (L10A1) from HXP in Greece and these drill rounds from BPD.

As originally manufactured they had a white tip, presumably at the original customer's request, and an inert primer. To meet British specifications for drill rounds Conjay Arms Co. were given a contract to add three flutes to the case and to drill out the inert primer.

The resulting round was issued to British cadet forces to replace their aging Drill D Mark 10 rounds. That is the round you have.

Since I know you don't really need the grenade blanks and tins, feel free to send them out to me, I promise to give them a nice home, heck, I might even pay for the shipping:tinysmile_fatgrin_t

Nice catch Craig!!!

If you come across any Kynoch .303 marked SMP or have bunters with a triangle with a vertical line or dot inside it, I would be mighty interested as it will help establsihing time lines.

Envious!!

Very nice collection, MissingSomething!
The Canadian Ball Mk IV packet is a nice one to get, as they didn't make all that many. The Grenade Blank tins are nice, espacially the last one you posted. Makes me very jealous!

May I ask what the story is on these that arouses your interest?

HIz

It is very unusual to see the ammunition symbol (in this case a heart) printed on individual packages. They are normally reserved for outer packaging on crates.

Example for the HIz attached.
