Unknown clockwork mechanism

Darkman

Well-Known Member
Hi, does anyone know what fuze this clockwork mechanism may be from?
It has no markings or identification other than an ink "8" stamped.
It is approximately 30mm diameter x 40mm high.
Thanks, Graeme

Hello Darkman,

You have a U.S. WWII era unfired, 30 second mechanical time fuze clockwork mechanism that was used in the Army M43 series fuzes. The Navy used an almost identical 45 second mechanism in their Mk 18, Mk 22, Mk 25, Mk 42 & Mk 51 series fuzes. By unfired, I mean the spring tension firing pin has not been activated. It is 100% inert!

Best regards,

Randall
