V1 & V2 Rocket Parts

madmikess

Member
I recently bought a part from a V1 rocket. I bought it from a guy who lives in Kent and is in his 70's. He picked it up during the war. He said when a Flying bomb came down it was a race between local kids and the home guard to get to it. I don't know if that was the case during the war. He said he used to gets bags of relics. He has lived in Kent all his life and has offered to take me round sites of crashed flying bombs he knew as a schoolkid.

I know a member on here who has a load of dug up items but will not sell them. The part I bought is nothing much to look at but the guy that sold me it worked with V1 and V2 after the war. He told me the British brought over parts from these items they found in Europe after the war to do research on them....is that true? I have no reason to doubt the guy and the part only cost me 15. He drew me a rough picture and indicated were the part came from. Is there any clever guys on here who think they can tell me were about the part I have went on the rocket? or its purpose? I can post the part to see if what I was told is true. Is there any members who's sole speciality is this type of ordnance?

Thanks in advance.

Mike

Hi Mike,

I would suggest that you post a picture of the part - if there are no BOCN members that specifically specialize in V1 rockets, it will still generate interest and the more "rocket focus" members may have detail diagrams and other related documentation that may assist. Of course if the part is so "generic", then it maybe a real challenge.....but nothing ventured, nothing gained!!!

You could of course for an addition 39,985 euros purchase the complete V1 rocket itself - no need to ask for IDing then..............

Cheers
Drew

hello

G-Day!

I will post it tomorrow to see if someone can help out. I have heard of a guy in Germany that puts parts together and builds them! interesting!!!

As regards buying a real one....I think as a trained joiner and cabinetmaker I would try and build one out of wood before I would pay all that for it. I'm sure that was a model one Herman Historia was selling, could be wrong. That would look great in my Garden.

Regards

Mike

Whilst on the subject of V1 parts,im sure this next item fits in your thread Mike?

Im told its a Rudder from a V1 but also my friend advises me it could be an Airelon? I will be displaying this with two different fuzes from a V1 in due course. :)

over to you.

cheers

:tinysmile_fatgrin_t Thanks Reino.

What is the item? Rudder or Airelon?

Hopefully Mikes pictures he is going to post will be more identifiable!

Sorry Waff, I'm no specialist in these but as looking at V1 photos I would rather say this is a rudder. On the other hand it also may be from some quite different flying object as well.

V1 Parts

Hello Waffenamp,

Thanks for posting. I have seen one of these for sale on ebay. Its a part that would be easy to identify on a V1 rocket. It is a rear rudder as I remember.

The guy I bought it off drew me a rough picture to show me were it went on the rocket. I'm not sure of its function. It is definately an electrical part and it has a "button" on the front that pushes in and out on a spring.

Take a look and give me your opinions.

Is your rudder for sale? ;->

Thanks

Mike

hello

There will be one smart cookie who will blow me away with his knowledge on here. This part has a purpose and it would be great to know what it is. It has connections to take wiring and a front button. I have no reason to believe that this item is not from a V1 and the old chap I bought it from was very interested to talk about it after he sold me it.

Thanks

Mike

Tail rudder

Well Waff here is your piece-looks fairly conclusively like a Tail Rudder to me !

Cannot see anything that resembles your electrical unit though Madmikess, I would expect that to be an internal component as it is not what one might called "streamlined" !

Crikey! Thats torn it if Ben doesnt know! :(

Ok,lets have a look at it... I see mounting brackets and a push-button? Perhaps its the 'cut-off' switch thats stops the motor running after the alloted time? That button could be operated by a push-rod somewhere in the order of things!! Just a guess.

hi

Waffenamp I think you are close. I don't know what exactly this component does but I know were on the Doodlebug it came from. If you look at Chris's attachment I will try and explain were it goes. What would you call the part on top of the main body? The long tubular part...jet engine? The rear end of this part is supported by the rudder. If you go to the front part of this my part apparently goes inside the section that goes between the front underside of the jet engine and the top of the main body of the missile. Have I explained it ok? So it must be an electrical switch that has something to do the the upper jet.

I think waffenamp is getting warm in his observation. I know were it goes but I do not know what part it plays.

Thanks so far

Mike

Hmmm,interesting observation Mike.

I wonder if any of the EOD lads in here have a better idea/drawings?

Looks like a micro switch to me, although its probably not that small. Could be inside an access panel and wont allow the rocket to function unless the access door is closed.
