Time for a bit of test........

Who can correctly ID this item of ordnance?

Firstly some background, this item was accidently found by the guy operating this drainage machine in Belgium many years ago.
During the drainage operation the blade of the machine punctured the item, but as the pictures show it didn't go bang!!!

The first picture shows the item stuck on the blade from a distance for scale.

The second pic is a close up of the same item

I have more close up pics and more info about this item but will wait and see how people do first. Once it's ID'd i'll post all pics and the complete story.

US Subs, if you know the story don't answer the question yet!!

It's a Projectile, I don't how big the ditch digger is, the area it was found in was a battle site during two world wars, but I would say some sort of 8 inch or german 17 CM. it also could be a 155mm

Along the right lines, but how about ordnance type, calibre, country of origin, fill etc etc. ;-))

It looks like a blurry blob in the photos, but that fact that it can be punctured leads me to believe thin skinned, like a Livens projectile.

Hi Peteblight,

Is this the best photo you have ???
Looks like a GP 250 Lb from the UK or ........

Sorry to intrude Pete, but aren't you missing one picture?

The idea was to add more pics and info as the days went by!!!!

Never mind, that pic makes things a lot easier!

Ok...... So what is it then (Except Jeff):crossedlips:

I think its a 17 cm M. 12 n/A

Filling brommethylketone or monochlomethylchloroformate :tinysmile_hmm_t:

Yes the size was in the photo name, but if the first photo was in focus, and the dirt was washed off the projo, Jeff wouldn't have posted his photo.

Hi Pete,

The first photo also whas a give away :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Here is one that puzzled me for a bit,

23,5 cm long and 76 cm dia
