WWI 35th helmet

This is a U.S. 35th division 110th engineers helmet. The 35th was comprised of National Guard troops from Missouri and Kansas. They trained at Camp Doniphan Oklahoma and sailed for France in May 1918. The 35th served in brigades in the Vosges sector and as a division at the Gerardmer and Sommedieu sectors and at the Meuse-Argonne. As a division the 35th spent 5 days in active sectors and 92 days in quiet sectors. They captured 781 prisoners while advancing 12 1/2 kilometers suffering 1067 battle deaths and 6216 wounded. The Santa Fe cross was adopted as their insignia because the Santa Fe Trail originated at their training camp.
