Can anyone confirm or correct my impression of the following German rifle grenades:
1. Gewehr sprenggranate
Date: 1941 - end of war
Indirect Range: 200m (I understand the range was extended to 500-700yds at some point)
Penetration: 10mm
Was this the first rifle grenade available to German WWII troops?
2. Gross gewehr panzergranate 40
Date: May 1941 - Feb 1942 (replaced by the GP30 below)
Direct-fire range: 100m
Penetration: 40mm
Units: Luftwaffe/Paratroops only
3. Gewehr panzergranate 30
Date: Feb 1942 - Dec 1942
Direct-fire range: 100m
Penetration: 20-30mm
4. Gross gewehr panzergranate (I believe this grenade is often confused with the GGP40 above)
Date: Nov 1942 - end of war
Direct-fire range: 100m
Penetration: 70mm
5. SS-Gewehr panzergranate 46
Date: Jan 1944 - end of war
Direct-fire range: 150m
Penetration: 70-90mm
Units: SS only
6. SS-Gewehr panzergranate 61
Date: Sep 1944 - end of war
Direct-fire range: 150m
Penetration: 100-120mm
Units: SS only
Thanks,
Simon
