105mm Tank Proj.

Hi all,
105mm TK APDS rep Proof.jpgBought the projectile shown here thinking it was a Canister round (because of the CSR stencil I could see!).
However, when I got it home and cleaned the rust off the base-plate, I saw it was stamped "105MM PROOF REP APDS RLB 1-84 SX164A LOT 95". So not a Canister round. A close look with a strong light at the remains of the stencils showed that this part of the stencils read "CSR PROOF".

So what does CSR stand for? Chief Superintendent of Ranges? Chief Superintendent of Research?? Something else entirely?

The proj weighs about 14 lbs, and the body seems to be made of some non-magnetic metal (aluminium?).

Thanks for any help,

Regards,
Roger.

Hi Roger, Your first guess was correct; CSR is Chief Superintendent Ranges and it's a proof head for the 105mm tank round, representing the APDS (Armour Piercing Discarding Sabot).

Trevor
