106 Recoilless Rifle Projectiles - Lamps (Atomic Deco?)

Hi guys, just back from a road trip and picked these up from an antique store. They were advertised as 'Atomic Deco" lamps. The only marks I could find are: Lamp A: FT-9-15 1966 106 M344A1. The fin assembly is marked FT-10-4 1966 FIN M8. Lamp B: FT-9-4 1965 106MM M344A1. The fin assembly is marked FT-10-4 1966 FIN M8.

These are very cool. A quick search shows them to be the projectiles for a US 105 mm recoilless rifle (M40a1). The casings are common as I think they still use them for avalanche control here in Canada. I've never needed to buy one but now that I have a pair of projectiles I might pickup a casing as see if I can put together a complete round.

These have been lamped but done so in a gentle way and will look great in a man-cave.

Greg

Your projectiles are for the 106mm recoilless rifle. That is why they are stamped 106mm. They were never used in the 105mm recoilless. It used the old 105 Howitzer M67 HEAT projectile that had its rotating band preengraved to match the rifling in the rifle.

Very nice items. Information from TM 9-1300-203, Artillery Ammunition, 1967:
