120 mm case

found this case its aprox 120mm and 400 mm in length has 3 notches cut out ine the top and various stamps on the base any idea what its for please

The 9 9 99 is the loading date. That would be the 9th of September 1899. I have a similar case to this that was loaded on 25th March 1903.
