120mm percussion cap protector?

Hello all,

Another item in my mixed bag.

The markings on the thing read L2A1 and AP83. Size accross is approx 13cm, so im gathering whatever case fitted had an out diameter of this at the base? Can anyone shed any more light on it please?

Clip L2A1 is for the 105mm gun

I originally thought that but have a 105 case here and the clip is too big.

is it an older case or a foreign manufactured as these clips are in use on todays 105 light gun (if thats what its still called) ,the base of my 105mm L35A2 cartridge is 127mm
