Hello Forum.
This is my first post as I have a number of pieces I would like to ID.
Where possible I have tried to do a thorough search online and if I have been unsuccessful then have posted here.

This small piece is a total length of 32mm. Brass Head with Steel (?) Case. The Case is 22mm long with 12mm diameter.

The base is impressed S T W.

Any help greatfully recieved.

I would concur with Spotter.
T at 12 o-clock
W at 3 o-clock
5 at 9 o-clock

Twin Cities Ord Plant - 1955 manufacture.

Paddyrat - the reason that the case is simply stamped "5" for 1955 was to use up old headstamp bunters from the previous year by grinding off the "4" for 1954 leaving just the "5". The US had done the same in 1944 by removing the "3" from the old 1943 bunters leaving just the "4" to signify 1944.

The material of the bullet envelope ( Please not "head") is actually either gilding metal or gilding metal clad steel and not brass.

Welcome to the forum anyway and keepa sking questions.

Regards
Tony

Hi. Yes I stand corrected, it is indeed a 5.
Its all new so please excuse my incorrect naming of parts.
Im slowly learning.
Thanks for your help on this one

Don't worry about me and my pedantic use of nomenclature! Once you have been here for a while you will get used to me going on ad nauseam about the use of "heads", a term that seems to have been coined by ignorant dealers who should know better.

The important thing is to ask your questions and we will all do our best to help you.

Cheers
TonyE
