I have an 18-Pdr HE shell dated 1915, and the maker's stamp is S M G CO / L
Can anyone identify who the maker was, please?

Are you sure it is SMG and not SMC? If the latter, then it is the Singer Machine Co. Ltd.

Yup, quite definately a G. The stampings are all heavily impressed, and nice and clear.

It was made by the South Metropolitan Gas Co. of London.
