Another question on markings. This time a half sectioned mark III HE projectile.

I've not seen the base marking before (on ether the base or the side) of a projectile. An M with crown above is typical of German naval ammunition, but clearly that is not the same and this is definitely British. Any information appreciated.

Stamp GA1 - crown over M over number:

(i) Materials or stores selected by an inspector for test or proof;

(ii) Acceptance of a defect or of an authorised repair.
