1943 Large Spare Parts case, What is the instrument ?

I was given this today, it's heavy. Searching for the " F. C. Instruments No3 Mk1" Just comes up with
a lot of rifles. It looks like it may have been modified into a tool box, but the quality and fitting of
the interior does make me wonder. It's quite heavy. Any thoughts would be welcome. Also this
Engineer chap was included, I'll look into improving the image around the edges if possible.

Fire control as suggested is a good idea, which on this scale would point towards Anti Aircraft fire control -
There ought to be a period pamphlet on the instruments used. I don't believe this box was ever used, if it had there
would be a paper list of contents pasted inside the lid and none has been.

Maybe it's this on a 3.7", but a later version ?
A publication does exist about it.
