Hi Ammotech,
It looks very much like the WW2 German 37 x 263 B. The case is right i am sure but not sure about the projectile, it looks to have been pushed further into the case than it would normally sit. And looking at the profile of the projectile it could be a tankbusting round used in the stukka. Although more likely a AP round.
I trust that its empty and inert?
Best Weasel.

Hey Weasel and Q!
I was thinking very similar but the topic title put me off answering as it said `pom-pom` and i aint got a clue on those.

best

A very good pal tells me it may be a 3,7 german round with the soft iron driving bands rusted away hence the proj stuck in like that?

cheers

37x263B is the designation used by Anthony Williams on his website and in his books. Other sources have the desigination as 37x264B, either way its the same 37mm Flak 18 AA gun.

Does anybody have an original german document indicating the case length?

Quatermass.

Try these documents... but I don't know German.
Actually I tried to send them all but one file is too large (it actually shows the measurements of projectile, cart case...)
Send me a PM with your home adress, if you want it...

Hello Ammotech, your last posting seems to confirm that the correct case designation is 37X264B.

Spotter, your American TM 9-1985-3 states the case length as 10.156 inches, which converts to 257.9mm. Now that certainly seems wrong!

Quatermass.

cheers Q ,Im binning all these TM manuals as they seem to be full of errors

Hello Spotter, The overall round dimensions from 'German Aircraft Ammunition project TS 1-48 dated 1956' seem spot on.

The TM's are (in)famous for there errors but they're still a good source of information, you just need to double check the info with another source, which i'll admit is a bit of a pain!

Quatermass.

theyre getting scrapped, sick of looking like a tw#t cos of the incorrect info in them

ID solved. Finally got it in my hands, cleaned it up and found pretty well the same markings as the picture below.
Thanks to all who helped.
Finally, would it be possible to rename this thread "3,7cm Flak 18" or something like that?
