IMG_0625.jpgIMG_0626.jpgNeed help with this one!!
It`s is (believe) a 2 pounder projectile - but for which case?
Is it for a QF case (pom-pom) or Anti-tank case?

Not sure it is AP due to the corrosion - I suspect it is but given the size of the hole in the base is it an APT or is it just a ball/practice TPT projectile? Again for which case?
Going to bead blast is & restore it but obviously need to then put in the correct case!!
Appears o be a faint crowsfoot stamp on upper edge of drive band?
The reason I think it is AP is the way the corrosion has eaten in in most areas but left areas that `appear` case hardened.

Dims are - 130mm long & dia 39mm (allow for the corrosion!!)

You have a 2pr anti tank shot. You're right in that the harder the steel the less it will corrode relative to softer steel. the tip / front of AP are often harder than the rear but are through hardened not case hardened (which is only a surface hardening process). If it were mine I'd protect the band using a jubilee clip and a strip the correct width from a bean can or at least gaffer tape and atttack the rust with coarse sand paper finishing with fine, wirebrush, remove protection and treat the rust with car body chemical ie Hammerite rust remover. Fill the cavities with P38 filler or similar, fine sand back to round if you haven't a lathe make the sand paper into a tube and rotate the shot in it, tidy up the ogive area and prime and black paint body, white tip, etc.

Instead of bead blasting mix 1 part molassas with 10 parts water soak for a week wire brush off black residue and you will be left with bright steel and new looking copper any rust remaining will show up as a black spot just chip at it with a screwdriver or similar and repeat the soaking you will be very surprised at the results
