Does anyone know if the HE projectile for the 28/20 was ever painted. I'd have thought as it is HE it would be painted yellow but I've only ever seen bare metal ones. Thanks, Dave.

Dave, why yellow?
Yellow was only for AA gun ammo, Air Force and navy. Heeresmunition "Land forces ammo" (HE projectiles) was olive drab (Feldgrau). Many people tend to forget that the different services in the Wehrmacht had different color codes (with a few markings in common).

To answer the initial Question, no have never seen a painted one.

Good point about the yellow, thanks, mental blank when I posted:tinysmile_eyebrow_t
The book "German Explosive Ordnance Projectiles TM9-1985-3 dated March 1953 pages 371 and 372 refers to them being painted black which puzzled me, could be it was a typo in the original text.
Dave.
