3" mortar round Brown painted.

Just acquired a nice 1945 3" mortar round, nice stamping but painted in a service brown tail fin and all which is original. Seen this colour on these mortar rounds before and on 2"inch, just wondering why it was painted this colour.

Is it brown or is it just varnished as an anti-corrosion measure?

Here is the round in a brown paint. I have seen these mortar rounds painted up in this colour as if done at the factory or at depot not some collectors restoration attempt.

Better view, but why brown, where these used for some other purpose.

Given to Belgium army after WW2 never filled as i remember many of them surfaced over 20 years ago the first pics are of my stall at detling show that was in my friends collection he was selling off

On left 3in after 1945, the other to compare with WW2, we can see relic also of brown color on cylindric part

So the brown body colour just like the 2" mortar rounds are war time rounds used by and marked and coloured by the Belgians post war. Many thanks guys for you help, much obliged.
