Maybe already explain, but I can't find it: is there a difference between cartridges with 2 digits date stamp and 4 digits date stamp during WW2 for the .303 British production? Was that the choice of each manufacturer or had it a particular meaning?
I think the ones with full dates were for aircraft use as they were inspected more rigorously but there may be other reasons that some of the .303 experts can answer . Hope this helps .
Hi,
the full year date was used to indicate aircraft 'grade' ammunition during WW1(1917?) until 1939 when it was decided to manufacture all .303" ammunition as aircraft grade,on the 1st of January 1943 all .303" was only marked with with the last two digits of the year.
